Recent reports seem to suggest that Google has come up with a machine learning artificial intelligence system called “RankBrain”
RankBrain is a machine learning artificial intelligence system that helps in processing the search engine results. Machine learning is a type of technology where the computer helps itself in learning without any human assistance on what it should do. Artificial intelligence is the process where a computer can act as a human or at least try to be one from the inputs it has gathered through human interference.
Artificial Intelligence mostly involves learning from human inputs so there is no such thing as a AI that can act completely all by itself without any human assistance. So RankBrain seems to be a integration of machine learning that helps itself in understanding the search engine better and work in an automated way in the form of AI.
RankBrain will be part of the Google Algorithm that will help the program to work on millions and millions of pages and selecting the most appropriate pages that is most relevant to the search queries. The new Google Algorithm named the HummingBird will have RankBrain as a part of its program making the overall efficiency of the search engine performance better.
Google uses signal to understand the content of a page, for example bold letters is part of a signal that helps the crawlers understand the category to which the page belongs to. There are large number of signals that involves various parameters that works along with the Google algorithm to determine the best pages for a particular search query.
