Website Development And Website Design: What’s The Difference

Website Development And Website Design

All the amazing and powerful websites you see on the internet are the cumulative efforts of Web Designing and Web Development.

With two terms that are so closely related, they are not interchangeable. The role of each is completely different from the other.

Understanding Website Design and Website Development

Let’s have a closer look into the meaning and the differences between web-designing and web development.

Web Design:

Web design is really the front window of your website. Its what people see and interact with. The interface, it’s everything that your customer will touch.

It refers to the aesthetic appearance of your website and how the different pieces and parts work together to create a successful online space for your business. It involves use of programs like Photoshop and Illustrator to create a prototype of your home page and unique internal pages. It involves the use several basic and UI design principles to achieve an aesthetically pleasing layout which also offers excellent user experience.

The main job of a web designer is to create or imagine such an interface that could catch the attention of the users and the interface should be logical, which means it could be implemented by the web developers.

It creates the blueprint of your site which becomes the roadmap for the developers.

Web Development:

Web Development involves turning of the designs into a live website. It involves use of  web languages and software tools to develop the design and functionality of a website.

For example, if a web design features CTAs buttons, those buttons must be hard-coded into the site by the developers to ensure that when users click them, they respond correctly.

Developers work with content management systems (CMSs) like WordPress or Joomla, but can code your website from scratch using languages like HTML, PHP, and CSS.

Website Development involves – A front-end development that focuses on coding of the visual design of a website,  a Backend Web development process that emphasizes on the website functions, and  a full stack development; being familiar with both the front end and backend, or as it is commonly called, “client side” and “server side”.

Simply put Web designers are the architect and Web Developers are the builders. Both play their own crucial roles in having an aesthetically pleasing and functional website. Neither can be more important than the other as both are needed and have to work together to make your website come to life.
