New iPad vs. Android Tablets: Who is the winner?

When experts tested the new third-generation Apple iPad against leading Android tablets, like the Asus Transformer Prime TF201, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Toshiba Excite 10 LE, they found the iPad, ahead of the pack. The high-resolution Retina display with 2048 by 1536 pixels is what separates the iPad from the rest. However the Android tablets did win points, when it came to faster web page loading, gaming, size and weight. Let’s delve deeper into the war between Apple and Android and find out who is the real winner:

1. Clear Retina Display

The 3G iPad’s Retina display has tremendous clarity and detail. The color reproduction of images is accurate, with colors popping out clearly and skin tones appearing to be true-to-life. This is definitely a winning feature of the iPad, as the Asus tablet, is very bright, with whites that appear to be washed-out, while the Samsung tablet oversaturates images.

2. Fast and easy to use camera

The new iPad has a highly responsive and easy to use camera. When compared against the Asus Transformer Prime, the camera is fast and moves from focusing, capturing and cycling to the nest shots in seconds. The iPad has a much improved 5-megapixel sensor that is on par with the 8-megapixel sensor of the Asus Transformer Prime. The images shot with the iPad are useable. The videos are a bit noisier, though they are watchable and much superior when compared with tablets, other than the Prime.

3. Gaming will improve with time

Games which are currently optimized for Apple’s Retina look great, but at present there are only few such games. Popular games like Riptide GP, ShadowGun, and Sprinkle performed well on the Transformer Prime, by showing more details and realistic effects that on the iPad. But this is only short-lived, as when developers update graphics for the iPad, the high-resolution visual experience of gaming on a 3G tablet will definitely win points.

4. Slower web surfing & loading

Though the iPad performed well on the Sunspider load tests, the Android tablets did beat the iPad when it came to faster web page loading and surfing.

Though Apple’s iPad is the clear market leader and winner, it is not game over for Android tablet contenders, as the iPad too has scope for improvement.
